NLP is an abbreviation for ‘neuro-linguistic
programming’ – so now you know
why it’s abbreviated!
There are many internet sites offering extremely detailed definitions and the complete history of NLP. However, simply put, ‘Neuro’ refers to the mind
and the way it processes all experiences through the
five senses. ‘Linguistic’ relates to
both verbal and non-verbal communication and dialogue
– and that includes internal dialogue within ourselves. ‘Programming’ is to do
with our patterns, thoughts and behaviour. If you think
about it, you are your past. Everything you’ve
come to believe and know has come from your past, recent
or distant - and has an effect on your decisions tomorrow.
Even your body represents your past (that’s food
for thought!). However, some of the ‘mental programmes’ and beliefs from our past may no longer be appropriate
and may be 'limiting' our decisions.
NLP
is about being able to choose how to function and behave
at your very best, to achieve your desired outcomes.
